How to convert MKV for  playback on portable devices like iPhone, iPod, PS3, etc.?

Video files in the format of  MKV have become one of the most popular video formats on the internet. However  it is a pity that almost all the commonly-used portable devices like iPhone,  iPod, PSP, PS3, BlackBerry, etc. do not directly work with video files in this  format. Thus, in order to achieve the goal of playing MKV files on the above  mentioned mobile devices without troubles, we have to transcode them into these  devices compatible formats in advance. In accordance with this goal, my post  here will show you how to convert MKV for playback on portable devices like  iPhone, iPod, PS3, etc. in detail.

Software you need:

Pavtube MKV Converter

Step 1: Download, install and run Pavtube MKV Converter

Once you run it, this wine red  interface will appear, on which you can click "Add" button to load MKV files  into this program.

Step 2: Select output format and set save path

After MKV files are imported,  what you should do next is hitting the drop-down button of "Format" to select a  format for your portable devices.

For instance, convert MKV files for playback on iPhone, you  should click on "iPhone" firstly, and then select a format according to the  specific type of your own gadget, here I choose "iPhone 3G MOV 640x480(*.mov) as an example. Convert  to other devices you can do in the same way.

At the same time, if you want  to combine all the imported MKV files as one file, you are able to realize it  through ticking the checkbox "Merge into one file". Moreover, suppose you would  use your specified path to save the output files rather than the one set by  default, you should click the folder icon at the opposite side of "Output" to  indicate a destination folder.

Step 3: Set advanced  settings

Click on "Settings" button, and the following window will  pop up, which enables you to adjust video and audio parameters including codec,  aspect ratio, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate, etc. In that way, you can  control the output file size as well as the output video quality on your hands  totally.

Step 4: Convert

So long as the former three steps are finished, you can press  "Convert" button to start conversion immediately. Once click this button, the  following interface will show up, and all the info about conversion will be  presented on it, such as conversion progress, conversion state, elapsed and  estimated conversion time, as well as generated and estimated conversion file  size. There is also another option that is "Shut down computer after conversion",  through checking it, you can go out for a walk or do something else while  conversion task is proceeding.
